Job Description

Faculty member to provide instruction in assigned courses. Courses may be seated, synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid. Maintain accurate records (such as attendance, grades, documentation for accreditation, etc.) and submit any corresponding reports according to departmental or college guidelines. Must be willing to travel to high school locations and work with high school students. Serve on various campus committees and/or as an advisor for student organizations.

 

Examples of Duties

 

Examples of assigned courses may include Music Theory, Aural Skills, Music Appreciation, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Applied Composition, and Instrumental Performance Seminar.

Supervise instrumental program, as well as maintain equipment and instruments for bands.

Provide effective instruction to students online and/or in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to determine student performance.

Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources outside of class, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success.

Support curriculum development by participating in the creation and evaluation of courses, curriculum, and programs; participating in program advisory committees; attending departmental, school-wide, and college-wide meetings; and serving as backup for other faculty members.

Promote the success of the college by participating in standing and/or ad hoc committees and following college professional and ethical guidelines.

Maintain teaching and work environment including equipment and supplies, overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Stay current in the field of Music, as well as teaching methodology by meeting or exceeding all institutional professional development guidelines, participating in professional development workshops and seminars, and participating in professional organizations and reading journals in the teaching and Music disciplines.

Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.

Communicate clearly, conscientiously, professionally, and in a caring manner with students and colleagues.

Participate in the orientation of new part-time and/or full-time faculty members, as needed.

 

Qualifications

 

 


Degree Requirements: A master’s degree (or higher) in Music or a closely related field is required. If the master’s degree is in a closely related field, the applicant must have at least 18 graduate hours in Music.

Experience Requirements: Experience teaching college-level Music is strongly preferred. Experience with using instructional technology is required. Experience teaching in both high school and college environments is a plus. Diversity of experience in teaching courses within the Music discipline.

Other Personal Traits: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to interact well with high school students and adult learners. Work effectively in diverse teams, both within assigned department and cross-functionally across the college.

Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Oral communication skills will be assessed in the interview.
  • Written communication skills will be assessed in the letter of application and in all submitted application materials.

Finalists who interview will be asked to teach a 10-12 minute lesson on a topic supplied in advance of the interview. All advertised positions are contingent upon funding. All employees are paid by direct deposit. Copies of all unofficial degree transcripts, including coursework completed and degree conferred, must be provided during the on-line application process. Official transcripts are required to be forwarded to the CVCC Human Resources Office upon hire.

Physical Conditions: Classroom environment; work closely with others; may be exposed to hazardous laboratory substances. Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time. Frequent communications, verbal and written. Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
