Job Description:

The primary purpose of this position is to prepare reagents/supplies and then setup and take down as needed to support the science laboratory classes and demonstrations.

 

Job Duties:

  • Prepare chemical, biological reagents and solutions including proper, legal labeling and use compatible s.

  • Handle potentially infectious waste and cultures in a safe and sterile manner. Place and connect laboratory and audio/visual equipment.

  • Set up lab demonstration for instructors.

  • Answer questions related to the proper and safe use of equipment for faculty, staff and students.

  • Take down Laboratory setups.

  • Remove supplies and equipment from laboratories in a timely fashion while noting any need for repair or replacement.

  • Clean lab surfaces and equipment including disinfection when contamination is likely.

  • Identify problems and safety concerns with the lab curriculum, supply usage, excessive damage and notify full-time Lab Coordinators as soon as possible.

  • Record consumable supply needs on Order Request Form.

  • Prepare hazardous waste for pickup and sign manifest for disposal.

  • Determine proper disposal by treatment, reduction, regular dumpster, or autoclave according to SOP including recording disposition in a computer database.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in related area, preferably biology or chemistry, plus one (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.

  • This position requires the use of a company vehicle and/or personal vehicle for business travel. The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.

  • Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal – both chemical and biological.

  • Stand for long periods of time

  • Tolerate moderate levels of dust, odors, and chemical fumes,

  • Distinguish colors accurately

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with inorganic and organic chemicals and their disposal.

  • Experience working with infectious cultures and autoclaving.

  • Formal training in hazardous waste disposal – both chemical and biological.

  • Ability to work with little supervision as well as to work in a team environment and problem solve.
