Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Student Leadership and Development is responsible for department leadership, supervision, and oversight of student services in areas of student experiential learning and engagement, student conduct, scholarship coaching, and career coaching and readiness for the Community College of Aurora. The Director will serve as the college’s student conduct administrator and chair for the behavioral intervention team and will manage the student complaint process. Alongside the Senior Student Affairs Officer & Dean of Student Success, the Director will work to develop and implement effective systems and processes that encourage persistence and completion and overall student success.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide leadership and vision over student support service areas related to experiential learning and student engagement, student conduct, scholarship coaching, and career coaching and readiness programs. 
  • Serve as the Primary Advisor for Student Government Association, including leadership development of student officers and members, participation at national conferences and weekly meetings, retreats and training facilitation.
  • Lead the planning and execution of CCA’s Commencement Ceremony  
  • Serve as main point of contact for internal partners and external vendors for services and goods for day of event 
  • Develop and distribute communication to students about commencement preparation and registration 
  • Create and maintain organization of vendor contracts and documentation 
    •  Serve as a point of contact for and delegate tasks to volunteers on day of commencement

  • Prepare, administer, and manage departmental operating auxiliary and general fund budgets and expenditures; perform budget analysis and reporting to inform decision making; and demonstrate responsible fiscal management.
  • Facilitate the assessment and evaluation processes and analysis of all department events, activities, and programs as it relates to student learning.
  • Ensure grant program management and reporting practices remain in compliance with state program standards.   
  • Update and review college guidelines related to student engagement and behavioral expectations.
  • Assist the SSAO with the development and implementation of effective systems and processes to enable student-centered, equity driven approaches to support and encourage persistence and completion and overall student success.
  • Collaborate and partner with cross college divisional and external organizations to drive programmatic efforts that advance institutional outcomes.
  • Serve on campus committees or relevant external groups as assigned or approved by SSAO.

  • Student Conduct Administration & Compliance
    • Coordinate the College’s student conduct process; collaborate with other college officials to investigate, adjudicate student conduct cases; and facilitate educational and restorative conversations with students regarding alleged Student Code of Conduct behavioral violations. 
    • Serve as the Maxient campus administrator and generate student correspondence and manage campus conduct records in accordance with state/federal laws, State Board policies, Colorado Community College System procedures, and CCA guidelines.
    • Design and implement professional development opportunities for the campus community related to de-escalation, conflict resolution, and other student behavioral management needs.
    • Serve on the CARE Team, CCA’s Behavioral Intervention Team and coordinate training for the Team to remain up to date on threat assessment best practices.
    • Respond to student conduct record requests from institutions of higher education that relate to the student transfer processes.
    • Manage the Student Complaint process for the college, and primarily serve as the representative in identifying resolutions for students for the Division of Student Success.
    • Participate in CCCS trainings regarding Title IX investigative processes; and assist the Title IX Coordinator & Title IX Deputy Coordinators with compliance processes, including record-keeping, investigator training and prevention programming.
    • Partner with Campus Security & Safety to provide prevention education programming to students related to substance use and abuse.
    • Complete CCA’s Biennial Review and Drug & Alcohol Prevention Report in partnership with SSAO & Safety & Emergency Management team.
    • Maintain current and accurate information on the college website pertaining to compliance information, including but not limited to: Student Handbook, Student Complaints, Drug Free Schools, Title IX/VAWA, Clery, and Right-to-Know.
    • Provide student notifications each semester on Student Code of Conduct, CARE Team referral process, Drug Free Schools, Voter’s Registration and VAWA.
    • Maintain college membership in the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA).

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in student affairs, counseling, higher education or a closely related field.
    • Progressive leadership experience working in a higher education setting, community-based organization or related field.
    • Experience working in student life, student activities, residence life or related area.
    • Experience and knowledge applying principles and practices that encourage student engagement and belonging.
    • Experience in program development and implementation, and assessment of student learning in activities and events.
    • Experience in presenting workshops and/or public speaking.
    • Experience providing supervision and performance management for professional staff.
    • Experience with budget management and allocation processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from varying racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds with appropriate race/ethnicity-consciousness
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience with student career development and readiness frameworks.
    • Grant administration and reporting experience of state and federal grant programs.
    • Experience planning large events for 3000+ participants.
    • Understanding of varying leadership styles and principles and experience developing leadership programming for students.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functional departments and work with cross-functional teams.
    • Experience working in a community college setting.
    • Bilingual preferred.


    SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

    Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range is $70,029.00-$80,000.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
