Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Lake Area Technical College is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable individual to join our team as an Ag Instructor, specializing in Agronomy and Precision Agriculture. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of agricultural education in the beautiful lake area region. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching, a strong background in agronomy and precision agriculture, and a commitment to fostering student success both inside and outside the classroom.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and deliver high-quality instruction in agronomy and precision agriculture courses, utilizing innovative teaching methods and technology to engage students effectively.
  2. Design and implement hands-on learning experiences, field trips, and laboratory exercises to enhance student understanding and application of agronomic principles and precision agriculture techniques.
  3. Develop and update curriculum materials, including course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and assessments, to ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices.
  4. Provide academic advising and support to students, including assistance with course selection, career exploration, and internship opportunities in the agricultural field.
  5. Collaborate with industry partners, advisory committees, and professional organizations to stay current on trends, advancements, and emerging technologies in agronomy and precision agriculture.
  6. Participate in departmental meetings, faculty development activities, and college-wide initiatives to contribute to the overall success and continuous improvement of the agricultural education program.
  7. Engage in scholarly activities, such as research projects, conference presentations, and professional development opportunities, to enhance personal expertise and contribute to the field of agricultural education.

REPORTS TO: Department Supervisor, Dean of Academics, Vice President 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. AAS or higher in agronomy, crop science, agricultural education, precision agriculture, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of three years of professional experience in agronomy, precision agriculture, or a closely related field.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in agronomic practices, crop production systems, soil science, pest management, and agricultural technology.
  4. Strong understanding of precision agriculture technologies, including GPS/GIS, remote sensing, variable rate application, and data analytics.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  6. Commitment to student-centered teaching and learning, with a focus on hands-on, experiential education and real-world applications.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, industry partners, and community stakeholders to promote the goals and objectives of the agricultural education program.
  8. Experience with curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment methods preferred.
  9. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level and/or industry certifications/licenses are desirable.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

190-day contract. Position starts in August 2024.  Salary and benefits set by Watertown Board of Education 

in accordance with the state postsecondary technical instructor salary formula.
