Job Function

Provide leadership, coordination, and support for the planning, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of the area of Student Success Services – which encompasses Student Conduct & Resolution; Counseling & Academic Advising; Student Access Services; Student Options for Success; Career Services; Campus Community Care Team; Student Life; Special Student Populations. Identify, plan and implement methods to successfully meet the holistic needs of students to promote a continuum of student success focused services to support persistence, retention, graduation rates, learning experiences, holistic wrap around services to support the attainment of a student’s educational goal. Maintain and enhance collaborative efforts with the learning unit and other divisions/units to nurture a student experience that meets the unique needs and opportunities of community college students.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Provide divisional leadership and direct the functions and offices that are under the responsibility of the position.
  • Provide leadership for and assess the effectiveness of a continuum of integrated student success services ensuring responsiveness to changing student populations and needs.
  • Develop key collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty and other college leadership to enhance planning and strategic initiatives around student success measures, resolving student issues and responding to crisis incidents.
  • Develop and coordinate strategies for promoting student engagement and learning in collaboration with the learning unit for both credit and workforce/continuing education programs.
  • Provide leadership in collaboration with the learning unit for student early alerts/warnings and intervention strategies.
  • Foster a positive attitude of service to students among all employees including a strong student advocacy role.
  • Provide leadership and guidance while adhering to college policies, processes and procedures for handling difficult student problems, concerns and complaints, including a formalized structure for student due process.
  • Provide direction and intervention for students in crisis and non-crisis through the provision of college and community resources in collaboration with staff/faculty/students affected by the situation.
  • Collaborate with various college departments to integrate student success initiatives to promote retention, persistence, student success measures, holistic support services, credential completion and graduation rates.
  • Standing member of the college’s Standards Committee.
  • Oversee the formal evaluation process and provide continuous feedback for staff under immediate supervision.
  • Identify continuous learning and professional development opportunities for staff in support of student success trends and best practices.
  • Manage and monitor departmental budget, divisional goals and objectives.
  • Provide collaborative support to all divisional areas in conjunction with the departmental administrators.
  • Has a leadership role in the commencement activities at the College.
  • Assure compliance with all appropriate federal, state and local laws, as well as college policies and procedures that may include Perkins Grant, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Disabilities Act, Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) etc.
  • Enforce the Student Code of Conduct and assist with the updating/maintenance of the College Rules and Regulations as it pertains to students.
  • Develop and implement innovative approaches to the student discipline/sanctions process to include restorative practices in collaboration with other college leaders.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Dean, Student Success Services, monitor and address student conduct, academic integrity and behavior violations as well as Campus Community Care Referrals in the Maxient system.
  • May serve as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator.
  • Implement and administer collective bargaining agreements to maintain compliance; periodically participate in negotiation of such agreements in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources.
  • Serves on college committees as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
