ALAS Program Coordinator - Part-time
Job Description
The program coordinator for the Assisting Latinos to Achieve and Succeed (A.L.A.S.) Program will oversee the development, coordination, and implementation of personal, academic and career student development interventions in support of the College’s effort to increase student persistence, certificate/degree completion, and successful transfer to four-year institutions. The role includes grant management, recruitment and supervision of peer mentors and summer program facilitators, coordination of daily activities of the programs, outreach efforts, program development, non-academic student coaching, academic progress monitoring, data collection, and reporting. Specific activities include coordination of the Summer College Immersion Experience, learning communities, and cohort and community mentorship.
The program coordinator is expected to be knowledgeable about culturally-relevant program design and implementation, student development models, non-academic coaching, and creative strategies for academic success in higher education. This position is highly collaborative; thus, the coordinator is expected to work with community organizations, colleges/universities, and multiple GRCC departments including, but not limited to, Admissions, the Enrollment Center, Academic Advising and Transfer Center, Counseling and Career Center, Financial Aid, Academic Support and Tutoring Services, and the College Success Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee the development, planning, and coordination of student success activities for the A.L.A.S. program., which is designed to facilitate academic skill development, provide access to resources and offer other services to all students, including students within historically underserved populations.
- Develop and implement a recruitment plan for the A.L.A.S. program.
- Lead and coordinate all aspects of a 20-hour Summer College Immersion Experience for participating students, including:
- Recruiting, hiring, supervising, and evaluation of program facilitators & mentors.
- Oversight of student recruitment and registration.
- Coordination of program logistics and educational and engagement activities.
- Program evaluation and enhancement of the Summer College Immersion Experience
- Develop and promote academic success strategies for students by encouraging positive attitudes and independent, self-actualized learning.
- Support students individually with their personal, professional and career development plans. Facilitate the development of personal portfolios and individualized career plans.
- Coordinate with GRCC departments to ensure access to academic student support services such as tutoring, advising, and financial aid.
- Facilitate key efforts that support student success and persistence for participants, including providing direct services such as monitoring and following-up regarding non-academic needs and academic progress. Services and support may be delivered via classroom visits, in-person, phone, text, social media, small group meetings, etc.
- Organize and execute career exploration and development experiences for participants, including, but not limited to employment shadow opportunities, internships, and college visits.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement student development activities in alignment with A.L.A.S. program goals and objectives. Activities include, but are not limited to experiential workshops (e.g., study skills, reducing test taking anxiety, etc.), recreational activities, networking/leadership/professional development opportunities, etc.
- Recruit and support peer mentors, and mentors from GRCC and the professional community to facilitate students’ career, social, and cultural growth and development.
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the activities for community mentors and program participants.
- Oversee and organize campus-wide social and cultural events for students, such as a new student welcoming event, Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, Black History Month Celebration, academic milestone celebrations, and a graduation celebration.
- Design assessment tools in partnership with GRCC Institutional Research to evaluate program effectiveness through quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting to meet outcomes of the grant.
- Manage the required grant activities and program evaluation to assure compliance with grant requirements, operational implementation of the grant activities, achievement of grant objectives and completion of grant evaluation and reporting.
- Coordinate grant budget management including monitoring expenses and reporting.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with higher education institutions, community organizations, corporations and GRCC faculty and staff, including Admissions, the Enrollment Center, Academic Advising and Transfer Center, Counseling and Career Center, Financial Aid, Academic Support and Tutoring Services, and the College Success Center.
- Serve as liaison between GRCC and the local community.
- Persons in this role are identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.
- Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Degree in education, psychology, social work, counseling, or related field preferred.
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) preferred but not required.
Experience
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience working in higher education.
- Minimum 1-3 years of supervision experience preferred.
- Prior work experience with underserved and underrepresented populations preferred.
- Prior grant management experience preferred.
- Prior experience with cognitive and non-cognitive assessments preferred.
- Prior experience with culturally-relevant program development preferred.
Skills
- Must have strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to be culturally agile within a diverse community college student population.
- High level of energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to be innovative and creative.
- Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and meet timelines in a multi-project environment.

- Must possess competence in software applications and programs, particularly student information systems such as PeopleSoft, Early Alert systems, data reporting systems, and Microsoft Office.
