Prospect Researcher - HCC Foundation
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Prospect Researcher is an essential partner in the outreach, engagement, and fundraising efforts of the HCC Foundation.
Responsible for conducting biographical and philanthropic capacity research on individuals, corporations, and foundations in an ongoing effort to develop the pool of prospective donors critical to the support of fundraising for HCC.
Plays a crucial role in the fundraising process by working proactively to develop a pipeline of new prospects and by providing timely, actionable, value-added intelligence to frontline fundraisers and management regarding prospects’ wealth and philanthropic interests.
Works in partnership with fundraisers to ensure that fundraisers have access to resources that enable them to maintain active portfolios and build donor relationships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Both proactively and reactively research, analyze, and maintain information (e.g., background, wealth, interests, capacity to give) on both suspects (prospective prospects) and qualified prospects.
Proactively identify new and high-level annual and major gift leads and prospects through electronic alerts, analysis, screening information, data mining techniques, push technology, demographic searches, etc. In particular, develop processes and strategies to mine prospects from within the Foundation’s database.
Interpret and evaluate research results and communicate analysis in an appropriate format to colleagues (prospect profiles, lists, etc. ).
Collaborate with frontline fundraisers to understand their portfolio needs and identify pipeline gaps, and then work creatively and proactively to close those gaps by discovering both new prospects and untapped potential within the current prospect pool.
Lead list management of portfolios regarding movement of qualified/disqualified leads.
Monitor, analyze, and disseminate news regarding HCC Foundation, HCC, key prospects, the economy, philanthropic trends, and the culture at large that could impact fundraising.
Lead the review and evaluation of research resources.
Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3 years of experience in prospect research, fundraising, library research, or related field, preferably in an academic environment
Licensing & Certification
- Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
