Job Description
The Business Advisor is committed to working with designated client base in a facilitative and supportive manner to identify their business needs and provide or obtain appropriate assistance.
Plans, coordinates, and conducts market training seminars, workshops, conferences, and special training projects for the assigned area.
Works in a collaborative and supportive manner within the classroom and in advising sessions to help the client complete the program and program deliverables.
Participates in measurement and evaluation activities as needed (including validation) and is dedicated to the program outcomes of job creation and revenue generation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Meet with clients on an individual basis at least 6-8 times per program (target of approximately 1.
5 – 2 hours per meeting through a combination of in-person and phone/on-line meetings) to guide business growth, with the final meeting dedicated to quality control of the growth plan.
Coordinate and market training seminars, workshops, conferences, and special training projects for the assigned program.
Assist clients in learning how to use professional services (advisors) appropriately.
Work with clients to connect them to external Business Support Services (local entrepreneurship ecosystem), as needed, for specialty services.
Work with clients to understand, collect and apply business metrics to support growth.
Assist within the classroom to coordinate group activities and support faculty.
Help clients apply course content to their businesses.
Participate in Client Support System meetings to support client business growth.
Attend all modules, clinics and program events at Houston Community College to support client learning.
Participate in a quarterly call for Business Advisors with national partners (exchange of updates, best practices, new challenges, etc. ).
Network with business support services to enhance the local entrepreneurship ecosystem and to advance program recruitment.
Engage in client Alumni Program events as needed.
Assist in client recruiting as directed by the assigned program.
Participate in assessment of clients through measurement, evaluation activities, and though team debriefing and review process.
May work off hours, including evenings and weekends.
Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Entrepreneurship or related field required
- 5 years related work experience in Entrepreneurial Roles or Small Business Advising
- Must have participated in or personally started up, a new business
- Valid Texas Driver License

General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
