Job Description:

Senior Financial Aid Counselor (2 positions available)

MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 4

Campus Location: Lynn/Danvers campus, 4 days on site, 1 day remote (telework is subject to change based on the needs of the department and/or College)

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

SALARY RANGE: Anticipated starting salary is $61,692.00 - $66,760.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provide advising and counseling to students on financial aid options and procedures. Responsibilities include planning, organization, and administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs for college students, including grants, scholarships, loans, and student employment; providing prospective students with information regarding financial processes and policies; processing of student aid applications to determine eligibility for financial aid; and communicating the vision, mission, culture, and the specific content of NSCC's educational programs to a variety of constituencies on and off campus. This individual may coordinate select programs and services to targeted populations of both current and potential students, on-campus and in the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides detailed and comprehensive academic counseling and advising to students on financial options and application procedures to current and potential students, including but not limited to information on: program specific academic and financial aid requirements and options; career advising; course selection and sequencing in the context of financial aid requirements; pre and co-requisites; and program change or transitional program issues. Assists and advises prospective, incoming, and current students in the planning and implementing their educational, career, and personal goals and objectives.
  • Evaluates financial aid application files for appropriate information and supporting documents; requests additional documentation as needed; performs verification of information; obtains/reviews confidential information relating to student enrollment, grades, and financial status to assess financial need and eligibility. Reviews student aid application files and determines eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Awards aid to eligible students.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates a variety of programs and cross-component activities that maximize financial access to the college for potential students and ensure sound academic and fiscal planning at the first point of contact for new and returning students. This will include but not be limited to: coordinating information sessions with the academic, student services and other components; providing advisement information through high school and agency visits; designing workshops and other outreach activities to be facilitated on-campus, in local schools, (including K-12), and in other off-campus community sites; and representing the college at a variety of college fairs, career fairs, conferences and comparable activities.
  • Serves on committees and/or teams as assigned or deemed necessary.
  • Will be responsible for one or more of the following: Federal Work Study Program, Calculating Return of Title IV awards, Satisfactory Academic Progress reviews, FAFSA Day coordination & planning, FAFSA workshops on campus, Financial Literacy.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Asst. Director of Financial Aid, Director of Financial or the Dean of Enrollment Services

Requirements:

  • An earned master's degree or bachelor's degree with at least three years' experience in financial assistance or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Community College experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of financial aid and computer-based management.
  • Must be able to travel between campuses (when necessary), work evenings and weekends for such events as Open Houses, College Fairs, community engagements, graduation, etc. A valid driver's license is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products, Banner software experience a plus.
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills.
  • Commitment and sensitivity to the importance of diversity and inclusion. Ability to work with ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic diverse populations.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of the community college system working with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Skill in public speaking and presenting information to large groups.
  • Strong technology skills and knowledge of various technological systems such as Customer Relationship Management and Student Information Systems.
  • Bilingual Spanish is preferred.
