DESCRIPTION

The Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) is a NIA funded center of excellence devoted to investigating the causes, clinical features, and best care practices for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

The ADRC's Outreach, Recruitment, and Education Core supports the recruitment and retention of diverse participants for a wide array of research. This is accomplished through the production and dissemination of educational materials, building relationships with trusted community partners, and the offering of free Quality of Life Programs that aim to improve emotional and social support for patients and caregivers.

The primary responsibility of this position is to enroll participants into clinical research studies that are affiliated with the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.

One of these studies is the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) study. One major objective of the position is to enroll people from Underrepresented Populations (URPs) into the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) study. In addition, this individual will help with: 1) increasing the inclusion and engagement of diverse populations in cognitive aging and dementia research; 2) investigating health inequities and related mechanisms in cognitive aging and dementia; and 3) cultivating a diverse, culturally competent workforce to work with diverse populations.

The recruitment coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of recruitment for multiple protocols. This includes recruiting prospective participants from the community, screening for enrollment eligibility, conducting informed consent, scheduling research visits, data collection and management, maintenance of accurate and complete clinical research files, and other regulatory and reporting requirements as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of biology, microbiology, social sciences, clinical sciences as typically attained by a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience performing clinical research duties in a clinical research environment.

  • Experience using statistical software applications. Knowledge of database, word processing and spreadsheet applications such as Velos, Access, Excel and MS Word.

  • Experience in medical assessment and patient interviewing to determine toxicities related to protocol management.

  • Knowledge of National Institute of Health (NIH), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Human Resource Protection Program (HRPP), IATA Shipping of Blood Specimens, and Bloodborne Pathogens.

  • Experience with clinical trials participant or study subject recruitment.

  • Experience coordinating study startup activities.

  • Experience maintaining files and keeping records.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to work in a changing, multiple-demand setting in order to prioritize a large volume of work and meet deadlines efficiently and accurately.

  • Excellent interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills (using grammatically correct written English and accurate typing) to interact with a diverse population. Excellent phone etiquette skills.

  • Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Experience completing clinical trials case report forms via hard copy and online.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse groups, including professional and non-professional staff and clients.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with UCSD research, regulatory, and finance portals.

  • Spanish bilingual strongly preferred; African American / Black preferred to engage with diverse communities in San Diego as supported by the literature on cultural congruence for gaining trust when researchers are working to engage community.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $66,753 - $107,407 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.97 - $51.44

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
