SUMMARY

Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders are recommended by faculty and have demonstrated competence in the course. They are presented as model students of the subject. As such, they present an appropriate mode to thinking, organization and mastery of the discipline.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide technological, academic, and instructional support and training to students outside of class in weekly SI sessions for all students enrolled in a targeted course.

Perform support role in SI sessions by duplicating class instruction and instructional materials, which will require SI leaders to attend all class meetings, take notes, do homework, and complete all assigned class material.

Advertise and make class announcements about the SI sessions.

Organize, maintain, and control lesson plans for each SI session to ensure students’ academic development.

Provide opportunities for meaningful and engaging activities to process course material and develop study strategies.

Attend orientation training each semester, as well as all training courses and development sessions.

Assist with administrative duties and data collection (attendance sheets, student surveys, planning sheets etc.).

Report student issues with class instruction and instructional materials to instructors and SI Director.

Maintain and model successful student behavior.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum one (1) year of relevant work experience (teaching or tutoring adults) in the related academic area of study preferred.

Successful completion of the course (or a higher level course in that subject area with a final grade of A or B; must have a cumulative GA of 3.0 or above) for position which is being applied for.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Good presentation skills; able to explain concepts to others

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

Exhibit patience and positive attitude to establish an encouraging learning environment

Able to attend mandatory training prior to Fall/Spring semester

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Basic knowledge of software packages used in particular disciplines, as appropriate

Must be well organized, task-oriented and flexible

Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to perform successfully in a large multicultural environment

Must be able to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends
