Santa Fe College’s Facilities Services supports the institution’s mission by creating environments that sustain the needs of the college community. The department maintains and enhances college facilities, grounds, and infrastructure in a safe and responsible manner.

The Energy and Sustainability Manager develops and deploys prudent practices targeting collegewide sustainability to create a more resilient and environmentally conscious campus. The Manager is responsible for initiating sustainable methodologies that support effective energy operations of college buildings, conservation efforts, water resource usage, and waste management and prevention and is also responsible for planning and applying cost-effective, maintainable programming that supports holistic material reduction strategies. As an integral member of Facilities Services, the Manager advises on construction projects and the procurement of goods and materials, serves as Co-chair of the College Sustainability Committee, promotes collegewide programs, and acts as campus liaison for sustainability-related initiatives. Additionally, the Manager is expected to support academic programs and student and employee wellness through the coordination of campus resources.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Proactively identifies, develops, evaluates and enhances programs to reduce waste, conserve energy and green space, protect water resources, and promote collegewide wellness.
  • Leads the search for sustainable, energy efficient and maintenance-friendly equipment and fixtures.
  • Plans and implements a cost-effective and sustainable utility management program to include maintaining utility consumption data and analyzing utility billing to ensure anomalies are detected.
  • Oversees the installation of energy efficient equipment, investigates relevant rebate incentive and grant programs, and prepares estimates for future utility budgets.
  • Establishes and maintains energy and water usage standards using building automation systems, lighting controls, irrigation systems, solar photovoltaic systems, rainwater collection and potable water usage.
  • Performs walkthrough energy assessments and evaluations of building systems, conducts audits on collegewide water, gas, and electrical usage and uses the data to make recommendations for optimal energy conservation.
  • Participates in the planning of construction projects by advising on ways to implement energy reduction techniques, repurpose construction materials, and promote renewable energy and water resources.
  • May manage minor construction projects as they relate to sustainability.
  • Leads the integration of strategic initiatives into academic and operational programming as the Co-chair of the Sustainability Committee.
  • Liaises with departments and evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and projects to support strategic sustainability goals.
  • Communicates outcomes of campus and community-wide sustainability initiatives, such as energy consumption, use of natural resources, waste management and prevention, campus food systems, and the procurement of goods and materials.
  • Engages the campus community in holistic material reduction strategies using upstream and downstream approaches and ensures measurable sustainability improvements are collected, analyzed and used to support these approaches.
  • Reinforces academic programming by supporting the utilization of outdoor learning environments and aides in sustainability-related curriculum development as directed.
  • Supports student and employee wellness through the coordination of campus resources, such as the Food Pantry.
  • Represents the college to external agencies and is expected to partner with utility providers and other stakeholders externally and college departments internally to maintain and reach targeted goals.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:  A bachelor’s degree with four (4) years of work experience in sustainable practices and design, renewable energy, green building operations, building, energy or related systems in a commercial or institutional setting or eight (8) years of work experience in lieu of education is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook; must have inspection skills in examining materials, buildings and systems; must have prior experience in community engagement, including collaborative project management.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Applicants must have a valid Florida Class E Operator (driver’s) license and be authorized to drive for the college.

Preferred:  Certified Energy Manager accreditation; experience with student mentorship and teaching in classrooms and in practice-based settings; successful fundraising and/or grant-funded project management experience.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
