Adjunct Assistant Professor, Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Diagnostic Medical Sonography will develop, prepare and teach Diagnostic Medical Sonography coursework and may be assigned to SF's main Northwest campus or at any of the program's clinical affiliate locations. Additionally, course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online and will be primarily laboratory and clinical courses in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory, and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting and in accordance with community input, Department of Education frameworks, and accreditor standards.
  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.
  • Collaborates with the Academic Chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop lesson plans for didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences that facilitate the achievement of program goals.
  • Works with the Director of Clinical Education to coordinate clinical education with didactic education.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.
  • Assists with the implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.
  • Understands and enforces college and program policies.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed.
  • Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance through formative evaluations using program evaluation methods.
  • Appropriately documents student progress and maintains records including attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes.
  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students' progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.
  • Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Assists and advises students with academic, clinical, and professional issues. 
  • Provides in-services on critical skills performed by the Diagnostic Medical Sonography student in the patient care environment.
  • Assists with preparing lab setups.
  • Provides opportunities for students to participate in a variety of lab and/or clinical activities. 
  • Assists in clinical orientation of sonography students.
  • Assists in recruitment activities of the program.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Diagnostic Medical Sonography practice and educational methodologies within higher education via appropriate workshops, seminars, courses and educational conferences. 
  • Maintains good standing with credentialing and licensing bodies. 
  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Chair, Allied Health Programs 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Sonography Program didactic and clinical faculty must possess an associate of science degree in sonography. They must have experience and possess appropriate credential(s) for the learning concentration s/he are providing instruction and performing student evaluations.

Additional Requirements:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
