Summary of Purpose

 

The ACCESS (Accessibility Compliance Center and Educational Support Services) Coordinator develops, implements, and manages the operations of Disability Services. The Coordinator provides leadership and management of department staff to ensure high quality, customer-driven, consistent support services. This position is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.


Starting base pay range: $55,000 - $73,750

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

  • Administers policies and procedures in compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) law; serves as resource for interpretation of legal mandates on College ADA issues including IT and campus facilities issues.
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure ADA compliance and effectiveness of determined accommodations.
  • Reviews and evaluates testing assessments, psychiatric evaluations, and medical documentation to determine appropriate accommodations.
  • Develops and implements educational development plans for students to accommodate physical, mental, and emotional disabilities.
  • Arranges case conferences with students to investigate and resolve concerns regarding academic issues related to accommodations.
  • Maintains and ensures confidentiality of student files including obtaining documentation of student's disabilities and other information relative to educational/vocational goals.
  • Serves as liaison between the Special Needs Project, internal departments, and external agencies; networks and handles referrals from and to community resources (e.g., Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Michigan Commission for the Blind, and Department of Social Services) to assure the provision of services for students.
  • Manages all aspects of ACCESS program services including supervision of department staff (e.g., scheduling and monitoring of work hours, completion of time sheets, performance evaluation).
  • Participates on campus and college wide committees to develop institutional policies and procedures that relate to serving students with disabilities.
  • Conducts workshops and in-services for college community including training for faculty and staff on ADA compliance, interacting with students with disabilities, and assistive technologies.
  • Maintains currency with interpretations of ADA law related to accessibility and student services within higher education.
  • Develops and administers program budgets including grant funds.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

 

Knowledge and Skills Required

 

  • Experience in supervising staff
  • Familiarity with ADA law
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Skilled in written and oral communication

 

Minimum Education and Experience

 

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline.

EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years if experience working with adult disabled populations. Experience in higher education preferred.
