Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Clinical Laboratory Science will develop, prepare and teach a variety of coursework to include Clinical Chemistry, Hematology/Hemostasis, Immunology, Immunohematology/Transfusion medicine, Microbiology, Urine and Body Fluid Analysis and Laboratory Operations, and other emerging diagnostics and related disciplines. Faculty are assigned to the Perry Center or at any of the program's clinical affiliate locations. Course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online. Candidates must have the flexibility to teach assigned time and format at any site throughout the academic year. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to reach a diverse student population, flexibility, willingness to work with others, and an interest in the integration of classroom and clinical experience. The candidate's primary function will be to teach didactic, laboratory, and clinical courses in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS).
Responsibilities and Duties
- Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in didactic, laboratory and/or online settings to promote student success within a community college setting and align with the NAACLS curriculum guidelines.
- Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
- Collaborate with department chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum to cultivate the mastery of course content.
- May evaluate, consult and instruct students during their clinical rotations.
- Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
- Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
- Appropriately document student progress and maintain records including attendance, grading and student learning outcomes.
- Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
- Assist the Program Director with preparing reports for internal and external audiences.
- Serve as a professional role model and mentor for CLS students.
- Correlates clinical education with didactic education and evaluates student performance and learning.
- Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
- Assist with implementation of college policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with SF college philosophy, values, and mission.
- Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
- Work a flexible schedule at multiple worksites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required: A minimum of a Master's Degree in any recognized academic major within biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory sciences or a Master's Degree with eighteen (18) graduate course hours in any combination of the qualifying fields is required.
Additional Requirements: For candidates appointed to a clinical setting, documentation of immunizations and current CPR/BLS certification are required. A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred: Relevant teaching experience within a community college setting. Current American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification. Candidates that have at least one year of clinical laboratory experience.
General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The Adjunct Assistant must have the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization, communicate effectively and possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications. The successful applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites, as well as demonstrate the ability to work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
