Job Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the leadership of the Special Assistant to the Provost and Associate Vice President for Student Development, provide general administrative direction for the operational, financial, and personnel activities of the following areas: Student Recruitment and Outreach, Kalamazoo Valley Accelerated Associate Program (KVAAP), Student Veteran Support Services, adult learner initiatives, bridge and prep programs, and Kalamazoo Promise Program and other special student support services that are grant funded or could be added.

Other duties include:
  • Prepare annual operating budget recommendations; develop, implement and monitor assigned budgets; and ensure funding compliance with program goals and guidelines.
  • Advise the Special Assistant to the Provost and Associate Vice President for Student Development, and Employment Center and Provost/Vice President for Instruction and Student Services on matters regarding assigned functions/departments; participate in institutional long-range planning activities; participate in, and provide information, advice and documents pertaining to committees and/or councils and association meetings to institutional administrators and others as necessary; and advise and communicate with students and student groups.
  • Develop, implement and administer departmental operating policies and procedures for all assigned areas and ensure student-centered approaches..
  • Administer and/or recommend a comprehensive portfolio of services and assess the various components of student programs to improve services to students.
  • Develop and oversee student recruitment and outreach initiatives and develop intervention programs to ensure student success; track, analyze, and report outcome data.

 

 
Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Knowledge of acceptable academic practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of institutional budgeting policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of institutional academic policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of acceptable human resources/supervisory practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of Guided Pathways principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of grant management.
  • Skill in coordinating and directing the work of others.
  • Skill in organizing and assigning departmental responsibilities.
  • Skill in making oral and written presentations.
  • Skill in analyzing complex information.
  • Skill in implementing long-range and immediate academic plans.
  • Skill in collaborating with faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
Appropriate education, training, experience and talents are required. An example of this would be a Master’s Degree in Student Services or related field and experience equivalent to four years of student personnel work including four years supervisory experience.
