About us:

The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) is a global Jewish human rights organization that confronts anti-Semitism, hate, stands with Israel, defends the safety of Jews worldwide, and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust for future generations. It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO and the OSCE, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe. The SWC is headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Paris, Jerusalem, and Buenos Aires. The Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles, founded in 1993, is the educational arm of the SWC. Moriah Films is the Center’s two-time Academy Award®-winning film division and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem is scheduled to open in 2025.


 

Position Summary: The Director of Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives to promote the organization’s mission, programs, and services. This role will oversee all internal and external communications, public relations, and media relations activities to enhance the organization’s visibility and engagement with key stakeholders. The Ideal candidate will have deep understanding of the SWC’s mission and work as well as issues that are germane to the Center.

 


Key Responsibilities:

 


Strategic Communications Planning:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) for communications efforts and track progress.

 

Content Development:

  • Oversee the creation of compelling and high-quality content, including press releases, newsletters, reports, articles, social media posts, and website content.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.

 

Public Relations and Media Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization and handle media inquiries.
  • Draft and distribute press releases and coordinate media coverage.

 

Digital Communications:

  • Oversee the organization’s digital presence, including website management, social media strategy, and email marketing.
  • Collaborate with the digital media team to ensure cohesive messaging and branding.

 

Internal Communications:

  • Develop and implement internal communication strategies to keep staff and volunteers informed and engaged.
  • Create and distribute internal newsletters, memos, and updates.

 

Event Promotion:

  • Promote and publicize events, campaigns, and initiatives through various communication channels.
  • Coordinate with the events team to ensure effective communication and outreach.

 

Crisis Communications:

  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans and strategies.
  • Manage communication during crises to protect the organization’s reputation.

 

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Utilize analytics tools to measure and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Provide regular reports and insights to senior management on communication performance.

 

Team Management:

  • Manage and mentor the communications team, including staff and interns.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in a communications leadership role, preferably in a non-profit or cause-driven organization.
  • Strong understanding of communications strategies, tools, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in content management systems (CMS), social media platforms, email marketing software, and analytics tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
