Job Description

Coordinator of CE Allied Health Programs: 

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee students and personnel for the Certified Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy, Medication Aide, Patient Care Technician, Medical Assisting and I.V. Therapy programs. Duties include: Monitor Continuing Education course enrollment, work with instructors to set dates for courses, coordinate with licensing agencies to develop new programs and assure compliance for existing programs. Work with area high schools and oversee allied health programs at off-site locations, and all other duties as assigned. Additional details in job description.

The Coordinator of CE Allied Health Programs reports to the Director of Continuing Education.  This is a security-sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record.  (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:

  1. Coordinate and supervise all CE Allied Health programs (Certified Nurse Aid, Phlebotomy, Patient Care Technician, Medical Assisting, Medication Aid, and I.V. Therapy) and associated personnel at all locations in accordance with the philosophy of the College. 
  2. Complete student registrations and direct students to appropriate office for payment.
  3. Serve as spokesperson, promote interdepartmental cooperation and effective communication within the programs and among clinical sites to assure the continuity and quality of courses and the programs. 
  4. Project program personnel needs, recruit qualified and appropriately credentialed candidates for positions, and participate in the search committee process for new employees.
  5. Ensure all courses for CE Allied Health are graded at the end of the course.
  6. Assist Certified Nurse Aide students and faculty to approve students to test utilizing the TULIP system. 
  7. Assist Phlebotomy, Medication Aide, Medical Assisting and Patient Care Technician students and faculty to schedule, approve, and proctor exams when necessary.  
  8. Orient all personnel assigned to all programs to their duties and responsibilities including providing the resources available to support their assignment.
  9. Coordinate the preparation of class schedules and oversee clinical sites/rotations for each term in accordance with the College calendar and assign program instructors to teaching roles according to the needs of the College and the capabilities, preparation, experience, and preference of the instructor. 
  10. Enter class schedules / course information into the Vernon College system.
  11. Maintain credentials to substitute teach in high schools who provide health occupations programs.
  12. Assist the instructional administrator in projecting the program budgetary needs, establishing laboratory and special fees, and implementing program revisions through the approved institutional processes. 
  13. Coordinate the procurement of all instructional materials, classroom and testing supplies, and laboratory equipment. 
  14. Assist the instructional administrator in the evaluation of faculty performance, both academically and clinically, and make recommendations to the Director of Continuing Education regarding the continuation of employment of all program personnel.
  15. Where applicable, plan and arrange Advisory Committee meetings and work with the members of the committee and program faculty to ensure that the program has adequate resources and a well-designed curriculum to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities essential for employment. 
  16. Assist the program faculty and Advisory Committees in reviewing the program’s syllabi to ensure consistency with the institutional mission and that textbooks, teaching methods and techniques, course content, course and program outcomes, and assessment procedures are appropriate and consistent within the program and meet or exceed program accreditation standards.
  17. Maintain up-to-date academic records for all Allied Health students and programs, including those in partnership with service area ISDs.  These records include but are not limited to the following:  NATCEP applications; DSHS immunization records; background checks; instructor credentials & certifications; facility & clinical agreements; documentation of student skills including check lists and clinical assessments.
  18. Work with governing agencies to ensure compliance with standards for student application processes, certification testing, survey processing and site evaluations regarding the CNA program.
  19. Aid the program faculty in the student selection process for CE Allied Health programs/courses.
  20. Coordinate with the Director of Library Services in selecting and maintaining appropriate program specific library materials.
  21. Participate in the advising of Allied Health students and other College initiatives aimed at increasing student success as measured by retention, completion, graduation, licensure, placement, and transfer rates.
  22. Assist and advise the instructional administrator in resolving grade disputes, student complaints, and grievances.
  23. Cooperate with other VC administrative personnel in improving and promoting the image of the program and the College through effective recruiting, public relations, and marketing activities.
  24. Assume special responsibilities and/or serve on committees as assigned by the Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Instructional Services, VP of Instructional Services, and the President.

Experience and Training: Must be comfortable meeting new people and networking. Must have knowledge with the allied health programs, requirements, and agencies the programs report to.

Education: Current RN nursing license and in good standing with BON. One year long term care of Hospice experience mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, state entities and other administration. Familiarity with state regulations for allied health programs. Attention to detail. Effective written and oral communication.   

Preferred Qualifications: Curriculum development preferred.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: RN license

Salary or Salary Range: This is a full time 12 month faculty position with full time benefits. The salary is $48,408 to $55,484 based on experience and education. Applications will be accepted until this position is filled. This position is available immediately.
