Reporting directly to a Director in Workforce and Economic Development, the Job Development Specialist (JDS) is responsible for making contact with local and regional employers for the purpose of developing job and career opportunities, and job leads for students and participants enrolled in various programs at the college. The JDS will facilitate job club and career exploration activities which prepares participants for the acquisition and retention of employment. The JDS provides technical and professional services to potential employers and participants, which meets intended programmatic outcomes. Works closely with other staff to develop and monitor Individual Service Strategies (ISS), Educational Development Plans, and/or career plans.
This position is responsible for assisting Students and participants with employment preparation and placement as well as informing employers of the employment services available to them to ensure that the college is assisting the business community by verifying skill gaps and training needs while addressing and meeting the employment needs of job-seekers. MCC supplies employers with qualified candidates, job postings, applicant pre-screening assistance, drug testing and background checks, as well as space for interviews and value added workshops.
The JDS also contacts businesses to identify new employment leads through job fairs, cold calls, networking and the e-recruiting, potential apprenticeships, on-the-job training opportunities, internships, externships, and other work experiences with the goal of helping students to maintain long-term employment. Follow-up activities are critical to this role to identify and intervene in those instances where supportive services or other job-related services are required to ensure stability and job retention.

Minimum Requirements
1. Associates or equivalent combination of education and experience in business/industry, human services, education or a related field.
2. One (1) year of professional experience in a related role in education, human services, or business.
3. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong oral and written
communication skills.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with program participants, staff and the general
public.
5.Knowledge and experience using Google Suites, MS Word and Excel.
6. Must possess good organizational skills and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
7. Must work with accuracy; possess good organizational skills.
8. Be able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously with high quality and strong
customer-oriented services.
9. Must be reliable and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
10.The ability to work with a diverse population, staff, and community members using tact, courtesy and diplomacy.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
1. Possession of the CDF, GCDF, CWDP, TPM and/or BSP certification.
2. Previous experience working with grant or performance-based programs with a record of successfully meeting outcomes and metrics.
3. Prior experience working with adult learners.
4. Job Development and/or job placement experience preferred.
5. Prior experience working in, or with, staffing, HR or placement industry.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- The person in this position needs to move about both inside the office and at other locations where interviews and meetings are conducted.
- Frequently operates a computer for extended periods of time.
- Frequently communicates with others over the phone and in person; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Ability to speak clearly and communicate proficiently in English.
Work Schedule
Must be willing to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays, and evenings or weekends as needed.
